INDIANAPOLIS – The arrow seems to be moving in the right direction for Anthony Richardson, although it veered in a couple of directions Wednesday.

In the end, the Indianapolis Colts’ ailing quarterback was in pads and did some throwing in the early portion of practice.

That came after Richardson said he would not practice because of a hip injury sustained in the first quarter of Sunday’s win over Pittsburgh.

When asked about his status prior to practice, he replied: “No, not today. They’re holding me out.

“Still a little bit of soreness, but we’ll see how I feel tomorrow.’’

That came after coach Shane Steichen said Richardson would test his hip prior to practice, adding he probably would be limited.

There’s every chance Richardson’s comments were in regard to not participating in the team portion of practice. Those reps would go to backup Joe Flacco as the Colts began preparations for Sunday’s road test at Jacksonville.

Richardson probably be listed as limited on the daily participation report.

Other players not practicing Wednesday included running back Jonathan Taylor), center Ryan Kelly (neck), defensive end Kwity Paye (quad) and cornerback Kenny Moore II (hip).

Richardson’s situation has commanded the most attention since he suffered a hip injury on a hit by Steelers’ safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

He’ll be more heavily in practice when the hip allows it.

“Whenever my body lets me know that I’m good,’’ Richardson said. “That’s really the main thing we’re waiting on right now.

“Like I said, we’ve made a lot of progress, but we’re still trying to work on certain things.

“It’s always tough when you’re dealing with injuries because you want to fight through it. I tried to fight through it in the game and my body was like, ‘Nah, man, you’ve got to take it easy.’’’
