INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever officially announced their acquisition of Phoenix Mercury guard Sophie Cunningham on Sunday.
Indiana added Cunningham to its roster via a multi-team trade with the Phoenix Mercury, Connecticut Sun and Dallas Wings. The Fever also got the No. 19 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft in the trade.
Indiana, however, had to give up the No. 8 pick in the draft to pull off the trade.
In addition to Cunningham, the Fever received guard/forward Jaelyn Brown from the Dallas Wings. The Fever sent forward NaLyssa Smith to Dallas and swapped 2027 drafts picks with the Wings as part of the deal.
“Sophie [Cunningham] is a player that we have targeted for a while, and one that we believe is a perfect fit for the style we want to play,” said Fever General Manager and COO Amber Cox.
Cox called Cunningham a "fierce competitor,' noting that she is one of the top shooters in the WNBA.
Cunningham has played 182 games and shot 42.2% from the field and 36.2% from beyond the arc on her career. She played six seasons with the Mercury and was drafted with the No. 13 overall pick in 2019.
