INDIANAPOLIS - Three Indianapolis-area schools came up short in their bids for state basketball championships at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
Jeffersonville beat Fishers 67-66 in overtime to snap the Tigers' 43-game win streak and claim the class 4A championship.
The title is the second in school history for the Red Devils and first since 1993. Jeffersonville head coach Sherron Wilkerson was a McDonald's All-American player on that team.
Tre Singleton scored a game-high 26 points for the Red Devils, while Jason Gardner Jr. and Justin Kirby led the Tigers with 15 points.
South Bend Saint Joseph topped Crispus Attucks 56-52 in the 3A championship game.
Chase Konieczny's putback dunk broke a 50-50 tie with under a minute to play to lift the Huskies to their first state title.
Elijah King and Nick Shrewsberry paced South Bend Saint Joseph with 16 points, while Dezmon Briscoe led the Tigers with 17.
Attucks was aiming for their fifth basketball crown in school history after winning in 1955, 1956, 1959 and 2017.
Manchester won the class 2A championship with a 59-54 win over University. The title is the first in school history in boys basketball.
Gavin Betten's lay-up as he was fouled with 1:25 to play put the Squires up for good. Betten and Ethan Hendrix led Manchester with 21 points each, while Blake Gray had a team-high 20 points for the Trailblazers.
Both schools were making their first appearance in the state finals.
Orleans beat Clinton Prairie, 64-55 for the 1A championship. The win is the school's first state title in any sport.
The four final games were decided by a total of 19 points. That's the lowest point differential since the IHSAA expanded to four classes in 1998. The previous record was 22 in 2001.
