INDIANAPOLIS – The next phase of Anthony Richardson’s return from shoulder surgery has taken place.

The Indianapolis Colts’ starting quarterback has begun throwing.

His agent, Deiric Jackson, posted a short video Tuesday afternoon of Richardson casually throwing a football on a practice field in Jacksonville, Fla.

In early January, Richardson said his rehabilitation from Oct. 24 surgery on his right shoulder was aimed at throwing “sometime next month.

“I don’t have an exact date right now, but whenever that day does come, I’ll be trying to light it up.’’

That day has arrived.

Even though Richardson wasn’t exactly lighting it up in the video, that will come with extended work.

The No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft suffered a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder Oct. 8 when he was tackled by Tennessee’s Harold Landry. The season-ending injury limited Richardson to four starts and 173 snaps.

He’s been on the comeback trail ever since.

“The way that things are playing out, I’m 100 percent all steam right now, Richardson said. “The gas is all the way to the floor. I’m pushing it because I’m trying to get back. I’m trying to go get the playoffs, go get the Super Bowl rings. I just want to be great for this team.

“I’m planning on getting to Jacksonville sometime within the next couple of weeks so I can get down there and finish a little bit more rehab before I start throwing. I’ll be back and forth here with the coaches learning some more stuff and just trying to get back into my routine.’’

Rusty Jones retires

Rusty Jones has announced his retirement after 34 seasons in the NFL and the last six with the Colts.

Jones has been the team’s director of sports performance since 2018.

“Rusty is one of the most well-respected conditioning and nutrition experts in our industry,’’ general manager Chris Ballard said. “His energy and passion for sports nutrition is unmatched and Rusty has helped numerous athletes in his career reach their full potential with his knowledge and guidance.’’
