Former IU star Trayce Jackson-Davis dunks on Spurs' Victor Wembanyama

Former Indiana University star Trayce Jackson-Davis accomplished an unbelievable feat Monday night.

He dunked on Victor Wembanyama, the 7’4” NBA Rookie of the Year favorite. Taken first in the 2023 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs, Wembanyama is viewed as a generational talent.

Jackson-Davis didn’t seem to care about any of that as he spun left, sprinted past the seven-footer, and threw down a powerful left-handed dunk right in Wembanyama’s face.

It happened with 1:13 left in the fourth quarter of Golden State’s 112-102 win against the Spurs. The officials whistled Wembanyama for a foul, sending Jackson-Davis to the line for a three-point play.

The IU product nailed it, finishing the night with 13 points on 6 of 7 shooting. He pulled down 10 rebounds, finishing with a double-double in 26 minutes for the Warriors. He added 5 assists.

“I saw that (Wembanyama) overplayed it to my right. Obviously, I’m left-handed, so I think I spun and got to my left hand,” Jackson-Davis said of the dunk.

“I told Loon [teammate Kevon Looney] that if I got the chance to try [dunking on Wembanyama], I would,” he continued. “But at the end of the day, sometimes you dunk on people and sometimes you get dunked on. It’s just a basketball play.”

Local fans know all about TJD’s tremendous athleticism. But with the posterization of the NBA’s future—combined with another drool-worthy highlight against the Bucks in which Jackson-Davis blocked two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo twice and finished things off with an alley-oop from Steph Curry—now the entire league knows.

Over his last five games with Golden State, Jackson-Davis is averaging 11 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He’s averaged 21.8 minutes per game in that span. He was a second-round selection in last year's draft.
