INDIANAPOLIS — Purdue center Zach Edey has been named Big Ten Men's Basketball Player of the Year for the second season in a row.

According to a Big Ten Conference press release, Edey received the honor from the league's coaches and media. He is just the fourth man to receive the honor in back-to-back seasons.

Iowa's Luka Garza (2020, 2021), Michigan State's Mateen Cleaves (1998, 1999) and Ohio State's Jim Jackson are the only other men to receive the honor in consecutive years.

Edey garnered the recognition after leading the conference in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage. Edey put up 24.2 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. He cashed in on 49% of his field goal attempts.

In 2022-23, Edey put up 22.3 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. His field goal percentage last season was 60.7%.

Edey wasn't the only Boilermaker honored on Tuesday. Senior forward and New Castle native Mason Gillis was named Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year.

Gillis appeared in 31 games off the bench, putting up seven points and 3.8 rebounds a contest. The forward also shot 49% from 3-point range.

Purdue's Matt Painter was also named Co-Big Ten Men's Basketball Coach of the Year alongside Nebraska's Fred Hoiberg. Painter helped the Boilermakers claim their second straight Big Ten regular season title this year.

Purdue finished the regular season 28-3 overall and 17-3 in conference play. The Boilermakers barrel toward the postseason ranked third in the country, trailing only the reigning national champion UConn Huskies and the 28-3 Houston Cougars.

Hoiberg led Nebraska to a 22-9 overall record and a 12-8 finish in Big Ten play. The Huskers ended the regular season in third place in the Big Ten standings.

The Boilermaker's Brandon Brantley also won this year's Howard Moore Assistant Coach of the Year award. Brantley is a former Purdue men's basketball player. He was part of three NCAA Tournament teams from 1994-96. Brantley is also seventh on Purdue's all-time blocks list with 114.

Per a release, the Howard Moore Award honors former Wisconsin student-athlete and assistant coach Howard Moore and is presented to "a men's basketball assistant coach who demonstrates commitment to the development of student-athletes on and off the court; who has made measurable contribution to the betterment of their community; and who has shown a commitment to diversity and inclusion."

Purdue guard Braden Smith joined Edey on the All-Big Ten First Team. The sophomore from Westfield put up 13 points, six rebounds and 7.2 assists per game this season.

The Boilermakers' Lance Jones and Fletcher Loyer also earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mentions from both coaches and media.
