BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Kel’el Ware showed a lot during the season in Bloomington.
It appears it will be his only one.
Ware, a transfer from Oregon, declared for the NBA Draft on Tuesday. The Hoosiers’ leading scorer averaged 15.9 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. He was Third Team All-Big Ten.
As a sophomore, Ware shot 58.6% from the field and 42.5% from three-point range while averaging 32.1 minutes a game.
While Ware got off to a slow start, he really came on down the stretch. He averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds during IU’s five-game winning streak as the season came to a close. He led the Hoosiers in scoring in four of those five wins.
As for his draft prospects, most projections peg him as a mid-to-late first-round pick.
“Thank you, Indiana,” Ware wrote in a social media post. “It has been a pleasure to wear cream and crimson and have an opportunity to play for the greatest fans in the world. I am so grateful for the experience. You have all welcomed me with open arms and allowed me to develop into the player that I am.”
Ware went on to thank his coaches, teammates and family.
