INDIANAPOLIS — The WNBA will be shining a major spotlight on the Indiana Fever this upcoming season.
The league announced Wednesday that the Fever will play 36 of its 40 regular season games on national television during the fast-approaching 2024 season.
The first four games of Indiana's regular season will be broadcast on ABC, ESPN or Amazon Prime Video. Throughout the season, a vast majority of their games will be shown nationally.
The Fever had a total of 22 games on national TV last season, with only one game being shown on ESPN and none on ABC. Several games were only available on the Fever's Facebook page, a vast difference compared to this year.
The reason for the heavily increased attention on the Fever is obvious: the Caitlin Clark Effect.
The Fever hold the first pick in the upcoming 2024 WNBA Draft, a draft that includes one of the most highly-touted prospects in the history of women's basketball.
Iowa's Caitlin Clark, the all-time leading scorer in NCAA basketball history and back-to-back AP Player of the Year, announced in February that she will be leaving Iowa City and declaring for the WNBA Draft.
While the Fever haven't officially announced that they will select Clark with the number one pick, anticipation is already building in Indy.
Since Clark's announcement, the phenom has signed an ambassador deal with Gainbridge - the company for which the Fever's home, Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indy, is named. Local businesses such as Jiffy Lube have even preemptively altered signs to welcome Clark to Indy.
The Fever have not yet released season ticket sale information for the upcoming season and single-game tickets do not go on sale until April 15. However, that has not stopped other teams from promoting their matchups against Clark.
The Las Vegas Aces already announced that their game against Indiana on July 2 will be held at T-Mobile Arena, which can accommodate 6,000 more fans than its home venue. Additionally, the Phoenix Mercury have dubbed their June 30 game against the Fever as "The GOAT vs. The Rook," capitalizing on an alleged rivalry between Clark and WNBA legend Diana Taurasi.
Now, the WNBA as a whole is following suit by putting the Fever front and center for national audiences in 2024. The Fever's full national TV schedule can be seen below:
