INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Pacers will be represented on the world stage at this summer's Olympic Games.
According to multiple outlets including ESPN, USA Basketball is close to finalizing its 2024 Paris Olympics roster. On that roster: Pacers All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski posted on social media Monday that the roster will likely include:
- Steph Curry,
- LeBron James,
- Kevin Durant,
- Jayson Tatum,
- Joel Embiid,
- Devin Booker,
- Tyrese Haliburton,
- Anthony Edwards,
- Jrue Holiday,
- Bam Adebayo and
- Anthony Davis.
Haliburton has previous ties to Team USA. The 24-year-old phenom was on the 2019 USA Men’s U19 National Team that won gold in Greece as well as the 2021 USA Select Team.
Most recently, Haliburton played for the 2023 USA Men’s National Team that finished fourth overall in last year's FIBA World Cup. He averaged 8.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 5.6 apg, 1.5 spg and 1.1 bpg in 21.5 minutes in 8 games.
Now, all indicators show that he will be helping Team USA regain gold at this year's Paris Olympics.
Haliburton likely won't start for the team, given future Hall of Famer Steph Curry will likely be the top point guard. However, the Pacer PG's ability to wrack up assists may come in handy for a team full of ball-dominant scorers.
ESPN and other sources are currently only reporting 11 player names for Team USA despite being allowed 12 roster spots. Wojnarowski said in his post that this is because the team will initially be keeping one spot in case other players want to join or become eligible.
