Indianapolis 500: How to pack for the track

INDIANAPOLIS — The 108th Indianapolis 500 is just a few days away, and attending the race requires some planning.

Before heading to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, fans should consider packing essential items like sunscreen. Food and beverages, so long as they aren't in glass containers, are also permitted on IMS grounds.

Patrons heading to the track on Sunday may also want to consider packing ponchos because rain could be possible during the day. Umbrellas can be carried at IMS, as long as they do not impede the view of others.

Coolers are also allowed at the track, though they may not be larger than 18" x 15" x 15."

Here are some other items officials permit fans to bring to IMS:

  • Binoculars
  • Headsets/headphones
  • Camera stands that do not obstruct the view of others
  • Collapsible cars and wagons
  • Flags that do no obstruct the view of others
  • Personal video cameras
  • Strollers
  • Lawn chairs and foldable camping chairs

Aerosol cans are not allowed on the premises, unless they contain sunscreen. Here are some of the other things that are not permitted at IMS:

  • Animals (service animals are premitted)
  • Bicycles (bike parking is available at Gates 1, 6 and 9)
  • Drones
  • Flagpoles
  • Golf carts
  • ATVs
  • Scooters
  • Roller blades
  • Skate boards
  • Pogo sticks
  • Hover boards
  • Lasers of any kind
  • Glass containers
  • Offensive or obscene materials
  • Scaffolding and platforms
  • Selfie sticks
  • Stickers
  • Trampolines
  • Swimming pools
  • Weapons of any kind
