WESTFIELD, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts added a veteran presence at receiver by signing Greg Ward.
Coach Shane Steichen has direct knowledge of Ward’s skillset. They were together with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Ward, 29, has 88 receptions for 768 yards and 10 touchdowns in 40 games with the Eagles, but last played in 2021. He spent ’22 on the injured reserve list and was on Philadelphia’s practice squad at times last season.
At 5-11 and 190 pounds, Ward likely is considered a slot option. That’s an issue with the Colts following Josh Downs sustaining a high ankle sprain that might jeopardize his availability for the Sept. 8 opener against Houston.
The Colts also signed defensive end Derek Rivers, waived safety Kendell Brooks and waived-injured wide receiver Ethan Fernea.
